  • Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff’s Wedding Was Peak Quiet Luxury

Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff’s Wedding Was Peak Quiet Luxury

    Photography by Getty Images

With a series of subtle looks, under-wraps details, and an undoubtedly high budget, the actor’s nuptials bring quiet luxury into the bridal game.

Celebrity nuptials are famously fussy affairs. So it feels pretty unusual when an A-list wedding can wrangle half of Hollywood and still feel…chill. And yet, this was the vibe curated by bride Margaret Qualley over the weekend.

RELATED: The Irresistible Spectatorship of Sofia Richie’s Wedding

ICYMI: The 28-year-old actor just tied the knot with musician Jack Antonoff in New Jersey, and from the high-profile guest list alone, it had all the makings of an extravagant affair. Taylor Swift’s fans swarmed the venue to see her. Lana Del Rey’s plastic slides were tried in dress code court. But when it came to the bride herself, the sartorial mood was the lowest of low-key.

For the weekend-long affair, Qualley deviated from bridal norms. She had a tousled bob instead of an intricate updo. She stuck to flats instead of heels. Even her collection of gowns was decidedly simple. For the ceremony, she wore an ankle-length halter dress, with crisp white buckled Mary Janes and dainty earrings. At the after-party, she switched into a breezy drop-waist frock with frothy sleeves. This was not dissimilar to her rehearsal-dinner look, comprised of an A-line tea-length dress with soft pleats and subtle corseting.

It’s suspected that each ensemble was made by Chanel, as Qualley is an ambassador for the luxury brand. But her gowns are so decidedly subtle that it’s honestly hard to tell. And perhaps this mystique is the point.

Her noticeably pared-down aesthetic feels like an intentional shift from celebrity weddings of the moment. Just a few months ago, Sofia Richie set the tone for aspirational nuptials with a fête that broke the internet. Held at a five-star hotel in the south of France (that was completely rented out for the event, naturally), her wedding was a visual feast of opulent decor and detailed ensembles — served up to the world in a Vogue exclusive. Despite many deeming Richie 2.0 the queen of quiet luxury with her tastefully expensive everything, the event was loud and luxe, setting a public expectation for front-row access to A-list weddings.

But coinciding with a roster of muted bridal looks, Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff’s wedding pushed back on this example. Despite a presumably high destination budget and guest list spanning from Zoë Kravitz to Cara Delevingne, the event was pretty laid-back. The rehearsal dinner was reportedly held at a restaurant called Black Whale Bar & Fish House. (Instead of a Michelin star, it has 3.5 stars on Yelp.) The actual reception took place at the nautically-themed seafood eatery Parker’s Garage & Oyster Saloon, described as an “easygoing venue” with a “big menu.” (My kind of spot!) And at the time of publication, any substantial details about the whole shebang are tough to scrounge together.

The chillness of it all is, of course, extremely chic. On the heels of Ashley Olsen’s uber-private pregnancy and an ongoing cultural fixation with quiet luxury, Margaret Qualley’s muted betrothal taps into the trend of hushed lifestyles. There’s something undeniably authentic in acting — and dressing — just for you, and not for an audience. As a bride, Qualley’s commitment to minimalism could be the start of a more discreet mood in celebrity nuptials. Most importantly, she just made wedding flats cool.

Feeling outfit inspiration for a special occasion? The nice thing about Qualley’s looks is they’re easy to emulate at any price point. Below, FASHION did the work for you.

With a romantic drop-waist silhouette and a lightweight linen skirt that hits just below the calves, it goes stunningly with a pair of pristine flats. • The Best Kendall Jenner Style Moments

The Best Kendall Jenner Style Moments

    Photography by Getty Images

Including red carpet looks and plenty of off-duty style moments.

Growing up on reality television and living most of her life in the public eye, Kendall Jenner has had her fair share of viral moments — and attention-grabbing fashion looks — over the years. And we’re always on Kendall Jenner style watch.

RELATED: Kendall Jenner Is the New Face of L’Oréal Paris

As one of the world’s most well-known nepo babies-turned-supermodels, Jenner has honed her own unique style uniform. From her show-stopping Met Gala moments to her expertly curated street style looks, the Calvin Klein and L’Oréal ambassador has certainly carved out a space in the fashion world that sets her apart from her famous sisters.

In honour of Kendall Jenner’s ever-evolving sense of style, here are some of the top model’s best looks from the last year.

    August 2023

To attend a party for her 818 Tequila brand, Jenner stepped out in a sexy Gucci dress from the brand’s Fall 2023 collection. She paired the one-shoulder look with nude lingerie, slingback pumps and a Gucci shoulder bag that brought out the subtle shades of green in the dress’s sheer fabric.

    Photography courtesy of Saint Laurent

While out and about in Los Angeles, Jenner channelled the California sunshine in this vibrant off-duty look. Jenner paired a bright yellow mini dress with a pair of classic black shades and completed the look with the Suzanne Small shoulder bag from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello.

    June 2023

It was all about the accessories with this effortlessly cool look that Jenner sported while out and about in New York City’s East Village. The model upgraded the classic T-shirt and straight-leg jeans outfit with a pair of Gucci sunnies, leather loafers from The Row, a brown vintage Hermès Kelly and matching skinny belt.

While on a trip to Paris, Jenner modelled not one, but two Bottega Veneta looks for TikTok. The first look featured the brand’s sophisticated cotton midi-dress with a keyhole cutout. Perhaps utilizing the now-viral “wrong shoe theory,” Jenner made the chic look infinitely most interesting by opting for a classic menswear loafer from The Row instead of a sexy heel. Then, she slipped on a yellow sequined mini-dress that was quintessential Kendall Jenner style.

As creative director of the brand, Jenner wore a monochromatic look while hosting the FWRD pop-up grand opening in Los Angeles. The pearlescent white outfit featured a one-shoulder top and miniskirt set by Rick Owens paired with a white, half-moon leather bag from The Row and Yeezy heels.

    May 2023

While soaking up the sun on a beach holiday in the south of France, Jenner sported a breezy vacation look that screamed model off-duty. Wearing a sheer AMI Paris maxi-dress as a bikini cover-up, she completed the look with a Bottega Veneta tote bag, Gentle Monster sunglasses and flip flops from The Row.

Who could forget this Met Gala after-party look? To celebrate after the big fashion event, Jenner wore a Nensi Dojaka playsuit inspired by a look from Chanel’s Spring 1994 collection. The sheer look, which featured a fully exposed high-cut thong, was complemented by strappy Gianvito Rossi stilettos, a silver clutch, and simple stud earrings.

For one of their first public outings, Jenner wore a white tank top and brown miniskirt to a basketball game with Bad Bunny. While all eyes were initially on the rumoured couple, Jenner’s snakeskin boots by Gianmarco Lorenzi definitely stole the show.

    April 2023

During a night out with her Bad Bunny, Jenner chose a unique look that has been best described as a nod to the “avant apocalypse” aesthetic. The outfit included a see-through Paloma Wool top and a baguette handbag, but the real star of the look was a toss-up between the Blumarine’s Fall 2023 collection mini-skirt and knee-high boots.

Not one to shy away from the sheer dressing trend, Jenner sported another transparent look to attend an event honouring Karl Lagerfeld in New York City just days before the Met Gala. The royal blue Alexandre Vauthier couture gown featured a mock neckline and a glamorous feathered skirt, not to mention a drop-waist silhouette that made the 5-foot-10-inch model appear even taller.

    March 2023

Jenner stunned at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier dress from the brand’s Spring 2008 haute couture collection. The look didn’t include any jewellery and Jenner wore a chic updo that allow the beauty of the bronzed gold gown with petal-like details to shine.

  • Dior Prestige Le Nectar Premier: Skincare’s Newest Reverse Aging Launch

Dior Prestige Le Nectar Premier: Skincare’s Newest Reverse Aging Launch

    Photography courtesy of Dior

“Reverse aging, from my perspective, means closing the gap between how we feel and how we look.”

“Aging can be frustrating and intimidating,” says Dr. Patricia Ogilvie, scientist, dermatologist and founder of Munich’s Skin Concept. “It also happens to be fascinating from a scientific standpoint.” Ogilvie was one of a handful of globally renowned skincare and scientific research experts in attendance at a conference hosted by Dior in the south of France to present the brand’s newest launch, Dior Prestige Le Nectar Premier.

RELATED: Dior Debuts a Dreamy Spa at Hôtel Du Cap-Eden-Roc + More Beauty News

The breakthrough formula is a massive undertaking, not only because it’s the brand’s first serum that’s able to address all three visible dimensions of skin aging (volume loss, texture changes and discoloration) but because it’s backed by research conducted by Dior’s Reverse Aging board, which includes experts in the fields of dermatology, life sciences and even psychology. In a recent 5,000-person study about age perception, Dior Science found that 80 per cent of men and women aged 18 to 80 fully accept their age. Better yet, 95 per cent of participants said they feel younger than they are. “This speaks to the progress that science and medicine have made,” says Ogilvie.

Even so, 97 per cent of participants revealed that if given the opportunity, they would choose to be — not just look — younger. Ogilvie says this is due to a growing discrepancy between chronological age (how old you are) and biological age (how old your cells are), especially for women. “As a dermatologist, I meet women every day who feel younger than the generations before them did at their age,” she says. These patients have enjoyed great accomplishments and excelled in their careers but tell Ogilvie that they don’t necessarily see this vitality being reflected in their appearance. “Reverse aging, from my perspective, means closing the gap between how we feel and how we look,” says Ogilvie. “Bringing these two elements closer together is empowering.”

Le Nectar Premier is able to stop senescence before it happens, reverting skin to a past version of itself.

Of course, there are two main ways to target — and reverse — signs of aging: injectables and skincare products. In the latter category, Le Nectar Premier specifically targets senescent cells, a relatively recent discovery of cells that are not quite young (that is, dividing and constantly creating new cells) or old (and thus discarded by the body). They exist in a problematic in-between state that speeds up skin’s aging process. “Cellular senescence is an irreversible state in which cells stop performing major functions,” says Dr. Laure Crabbe-Vert, a scientific coordinator at LVMH Recherche. The stressor at the root of senescence is glyoxal, which can be found in food, drinks, pollution and textiles. “It triggers skin cells to release certain molecules, forming an age signal network,” says Crabbe-Vert. “This molecular pathway spreads the message of aging to surrounding cells and amplifies the impact of senescence.”

Le Nectar Premier is able to stop senescence before it happens, reverting skin to a past version of itself. “After a month of use, it’s like the fine lines of the past seven years never existed,” says Virginie Couturaud, Dior’s scientific communications director.

So, what’s the difference between an anti-aging product and a reverse-aging product? “I’ve never liked the term ‘anti-aging,’” says Ogilvie. “It’s a resistance to something that’s inevitable. And it doesn’t fully encompass the opportunities that science provides us with today. By reprogramming the aging process of cells, we can actually make them behave younger. Reverse aging helps people live the period of their life in which they felt the best, for longer.”

It is true, after all, that the skincare industry would cease to exist — let alone grow and expand at its current astonishing rate — if its results were merely skin deep. “When we improve the surface, it goes way beyond the surface,” says Ogilvie. “It has a deep psychological impact.”

  • Miranda Deserves Better in ‘And Just Like That…’

Miranda Deserves Better in ‘And Just Like That…’

The once strong-willed icon has become a proverbial punching bag on ‘And Just Like That…’. Can her style evolution save her?

From the moment And Just Like That… entered the zeitgeist, fans have been mourning Miranda Hobbes. She didn’t pass away — but something about her felt lost.

RELATED: What’s Up With Aidan and Carrie’s Outfits in And Just Like That…?

Of all the Sex and the City women, Miranda — played by Cynthia Nixon — was once uniquely aspirational. Throughout the original show’s six-season run, she rejected expectations of femininity and looked great doing it. Sporting power suits, keeping her hair short and spiky, and putting her career above all else, she championed a cool minimalist androgyny. Sure, she had her faults. But one thing remained true about Miranda: She knew who she was. That is, until And Just Like That… came around.

Because of her gender-bending chicness, there was always speculation as to whether Miranda was queer (Nixon herself is married to a woman). So when AJLT decided to explore this plotline, it had the exciting opportunity to see her flourish later in life. But instead, we’ve gotten some cringe clothing moments that just don’t feel fair.

Over the course of And Just Like That…, Miranda has gone through head-spinning style changes. In season 1, after transitioning from law exec to nervous grad student, her hair is grey and she wears relaxed, comfy clothes (read: lots of plaid). While exploring her sexuality, she enters a relationship with Che Diaz, a non-binary comedian who treats her horribly and has emerged as the show’s de facto villain. She also callously cheats on her longtime husband Steve, which casts another shadow of negativity on her radical self-discovery.

In season 1, she looks pretty casual — a major switch up from her SATC corporate wear. This visual 180 comes with a personality transplant, and she spends episodes feeling insecure, unsure of herself and all over the place emotionally. Through this shift, the once vivacious, strong-willed Miranda feels woefully watered down.

    Cynthia Nixon

In a series where clothes have always mattered, Miranda’s journey in reclaiming her sexuality started off far less fashionable than it could have been. By abandoning her established subversive style, she wasn’t able to continue the gender-fluid experimentation she was once known for. At the beginning of season 2, after moving to California with Che, a now-red-headed Miranda spends the better part of an episode literally covered in trash after a beach cleanup goes wrong. While her NYC friends are dressed to the nines, Miranda is sartorially punished. Something about that doesn’t feel right.

As season 2 progresses, things appear to be getting better for Miranda. She leaves her dysfunctional relationship with Che, and she leans into sexier silhouettes when casually dating. She’s rising through the ranks at her new job, and her revised work attire is softened but stylish — with pleated dresses, chunky jewellery and brighter colours than in previous years. She’s also retreated to her beloved bluntness. After a co-worker sarcastically calls her “perfect,” she responds: “Actually, I’m a sexually-confused alcoholic who’s in the midst of a divorce.” That’s on self-awareness!

Her style improvements continue into episode 9, when she dons a sage green pantsuit to go apartment hunting with Carrie. It’s a “She’s back!” moment for sure. And it culminates in episode 10, where she takes two well-paid-off fashion risks: a striking gradient coat to leave a meeting with her boss, and a brown tailored jumpsuit with neon buttons for brunch. These looks don’t emulate SATC Miranda, yet they still feel authentic to her. But even with glimmers of sartorial hope, Miranda remains the show’s punching bag.

    Cynthia Nixon

In episode 10, she attends Che’s comedy show at the advice of (and alongside) Carrie. Here, Che divulges intimate details about their love life and mocks her sexual curiosity to a crowd of laughing strangers. Miranda gets up and leaves, while Carrie stays put. Later in the episode, Carrie dismisses Miranda’s (valid) anger at Che, calling it “high school.” Try as she may, it seems Miranda can’t avoid mistreatment in And Just Like That….

    Cynthia Nixon

Don’t get us wrong: Miranda’s aesthetic rollercoaster is not objectively bad. It’s refreshing to see a middle-aged woman go through raw self-discovery on-screen. What’s bothersome about this is the fact that Miranda’s journey consistently feels overshadowed by the bad things in her life — no matter how well she’s dressed. With the final episode airing on August 24, let’s hope the end of the series gives Miranda what she so desperately needs: peace of mind.

We’re halfway through 2023 and this year’s perfume launches have stirred up plenty of excitement. From revamped classics to niche scents inspired by memorable pop culture moments (more on that later), the world of fragrance is in full bloom.

RELATED: 13 Fragrances and Candles That Smell Like a European Vacation

But what separates a good perfume from an absolute showstopper? It’s hard to say. More often than not, a scent can unearth a fond memory or even remind you of a place you dream of visiting. Perfumehead at Holt Renfrew

Have you met Perfumehead yet? If not, allow us to introduce you. Launched in the fall of 2022, this Los Angeles-based niche fragrance brand has gained quite the reputation for its cinematic approach to scent. Think fragrances inspired by David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, or Britney and Justin’s unforgettable double denim moment at the AMAs (that’s the coriander, cumin and tonka-infused Canadian Tuxedo, for those wondering). Founder Daniel Patrick Giles — who began his career at Holt Renfrew — built each of the seven extraits de parfum in Perfumehead’s collection as scents you can layer, inspired by the “osmocosm”—“osmo” meaning scent and “cosmo” as in universe. And in a delightful full circle moment, the brand is now exclusively available in Canada at Holts.

  • The Headband Trend Is Everywhere — Here’s Where to Get Yours

The Headband Trend Is Everywhere — Here’s Where to Get Yours

    Photography by Getty Images

They’re not new. They’re not particularly groundbreaking. But the power of headbands cannot be understated. Here’s where to get yours.

I’m not saying headbands are magical. But I’m not not saying that, either. You see, the age-old accessory is so much more than an individual item — it’s a loose concept rich with possibility and shape-shifting powers. It can punctuate a preppy statement, add intentionality to an athleisure outing, and complement a coquettish aesthetic. It’s no wonder that as fashion veers toward minimalism, the ostensibly simple add-on is absolutely thriving.

    RELATED: Perms Are Cool Again

These days, every outfit seems to look better with a headband. Look no further than the roster of It girls flocking to the versatile doodad in all its forms. During her viral fashion-filled press tour earlier this summer, Jennifer Lawrence had a penchant for pairing thick, puffy headbands with her revolving door of elegant outfits. Bella Hadid and Laura Harrier have been sporting sporty black bands in their chic street-style outings for a while. Headbands in all their varying forms have even emerged as a red carpet trend — from Precious Lee and Emma Chamberlain at the Met Gala to Shay Mitchell’s doll-like look at the Barbie premiere.

Headbands are shaping up to be the must-have accessory of 2023. How does such a simple adornment have so much impact? Just refer to its head-spinning history, where different iterations have functioned as crowns of cultural commentary. In the 1920s, Vogue notes that headbands were used to push back on sartorial restrictions and often complemented defiantly chopped hairstyles. In the Second World War, headbands took on a functional role, with the iconic Rosie the Riveter famously fastening on a polka dot bandana to match her “We Can Do It!” message. Through the decades, varying headbands have starred in presidential campaign trails and ’80s workout posters. Transformation is at the core of the head-adorning style.

So while the headband trend is not new, there’s something fresh about its revived popularity — particularly when compared to the previous decade. The 2010s brought crystal-spun hair accessories with maximalist embellishments and bright colours. But 2023 is the age of quiet luxury and Sofia Richie minimalism. Now, headbands subtly elevate outfits with too-cool-to-care sophistication that is once again sparking cultural discourse. Take the renewed popularity of the simple black workout band, which Dazed called a sleuth status symbol. Not bad for something you can buy at a drugstore.

Above all, with their crown-like appearance, headbands communicate a certain kind of self-aware confidence. This is probably why, as much as they change, they’ll never go out of style. From polished slip-on designs to sleek stretchy materials, there’s a headband out there for every mood. Below, FASHION has curated the best options on the market right now.

The headband trend is Barbie-approved, obvi. This hot pink cushioned style is so comfy you’ll forget you’re wearing it. And since pink is officially the new black, it goes with everything.

  • The Evolution of Concert Dressing, Fashion’s Most Entertaining Trend

The Evolution of Concert Dressing, Fashion’s Most Entertaining Trend

    Photography by Getty Images

From The Rolling Stones and Madonna to Harry Styles and Beyoncé, dressing up to see your fave musician perform isn’t new, but modern fans have taken this trend to the next level.

While the typical concert uniform was once a simple band tee and jeans, a new era of “concert dressing” has ushered in a different standard for what some fans wear to see their favourite live music acts — and it’s turning concerts into full-on fashion shows.

RELATED: Harry Styles Sees and Loves His Fans’ Unique Fashion Sense

The idea behind concert dressing — dressing on-theme to match the vibe of the artist one is seeing — isn’t brand new. People have been dressing according to the energy of the shows they’re attending for ages. For instance, it’s common knowledge that so-called hippie fashion (think tons of fringe, flowy dresses and lots of denim) dominated music festivals dating back to Woodstock and that an outfit for a rock show continues to include staples like leather pants and distressed fabrics. In 2023, concert dressing is taking this tradition to a whole new level.

For some, crafting the perfect concert outfit involves drawing inspiration from an artist’s music. Several concert-goers have done this by matching their look to the general sound of an artist’s discography, while others create ensembles based on particular lyrics (for example, a “wine-stained dress” is a fan favourite to wear at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour because it references a specific line from her 2014 song, “Clean”). Other fans have gone further by fully replicating looks that their favourite artists have worn themselves. Some have even caught their favourite performer’s attention with these extremely detailed concert costumes too — who can forget the iconic moment at Beychella where Queen Bey literally stopped mid-song to praise a fan who had completely recreated the on-stage look she was wearing just the weekend before?

While over-the-top concert dressing not a totally new idea, social media has popularized the trend — after all, were you even at the show if you didn’t share your cool concert look on your feed? And there’s no doubt that an overall excitement for the return of live music and a way to celebrate seeing one’s favourite artist in person since the peak of COVID-19 has inspired fans to go all out.

In honour of fashion’s most delightful current fad, here’s a look at the evolution of concert dressing through the years.

    The Rolling Stones

    Photography by Getty Images

Known for their carefree and eccentric fashion choices, The Rolling Stones certainly influenced a shift in concert culture during the peak of their popularity. As their style evolved from clean-cut suits to leather pants and long hair, their fans’ fashions also began to change. By the ’70s, it was common to see tons of Mick Jagger outfit inspo at a Stones show with concert-goers replicating his outlandish style in crop tops and clashing patterns.

    Madonna

    Photography by Getty Images

We can’t discuss concert culture without mentioning Madonna. After bursting onto the scene in the 1980s and becoming both a major celebrity and style icon, fans would often sport Madonna-inspired looks to her concerts. And since Madonna is ever the chameleon, having evolved her look and sound countless times over the last few decades, that means fans have worn everything from homemade cone bras and penciled-in moles to feathered hair and low-rise Western pants to watch the Material Girl perform.

    Britney Spears

    Photography by Getty Images

As one of the most popular performers during the original wave of Y2K trends, Britney Spears’ young fans showed up to her concerts in all the most iconic styles of the time, all sported by Spears herself, of course. Baby tees, low-rise pants and kitschy accessories like butterfly clips and scrunchies would often be worn by her fans. Naturally, artist merchandise was super popular at the time, and fans would often sport Britney T-shirts at her shows.

    Harry Styles

    @imsarahmcveigh What people wore to Harry Styles 🍒🪩❤️‍🔥🏰 #hslotoutfit #hslot #hslotslane #harrystylesloveontour ♬ Satellite speed audio – 1D Audioz

Regarded by some as one of the most significant reasons modern concert dressing is so popular, Harry Styles fans went all out for every single one of the British pop icon’s shows during his recent two year-long tour. Often drawing from Styles’ on-stage fashion, fans wore bell bottoms, eccentric prints, platform boots, cowboy hats and lots of feather boas to Styles’ Love On Tour shows. Others would even take it further by recreating some of Styles’ icon looks for the show or re-imagining song lyrics into full-on, Met Gala-worthy costumes.

    Beyoncé

Beam) – Beyoncé

The fashion from both Beyoncé and her fans during the singer’s current worldwide Renaissance Tour is in a league of its own. Inspired by the disco dance party vibes of Beyoncé’s Renaissance album, fans have been sporting sparkly, futuristic and western-inspired looks. And Queen Bey is matching the energy by debuting several new couture costumes at every show. As Beyoncé sings herself, “it should cost a billion to look this good.”
